Paritie Hosts Eye-opening Cybersecurity Training for Teachers

In today’s hyper-connected world, the importance of cybersecurity cannot be overstated. With the increasing number of cyber threats targeting both individuals and organizations, the need to stay vigilant and informed is more critical than ever. In recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Paritie Innovation Hub hosted an impactful training for teachers that was aimed at raising awareness and providing them with relevant information to safeguard their digital lives.

This year’s theme, “Securing Your Digital Future,” resonated deeply with our attendees as we explored key topics such as password management, phishing scams, and the evolving nature of online threats. Through insightful expert-led discussions, participants left empowered with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital landscape more securely.

As part of its own way of observing the day and with a focus on teachers, in recognition of the World Teachers’ Day which is observed on 5th of October annually, Paritie Innovation Hub brought together teachers from both primary and secondary schools in Minna, Niger State, to train and sensitize them on major cyber safety measures to follow over the internet.

The training was more like a train-the-educators program because we wanted the teachers to also educate their students/pupils with what they learnt.

We had two speakers who gave presentations  that covered the topics below:

  1. Fight Against Cyber-crimes: The Role of Teachers in Educating Students – Faith Boluwatife (Cybersecurity Expert and Tutor, Paritie Innovation Hub).
  2. Observing Safe Online Practices – Paul Onokoka (Community Manager, Paritie Innovation Hub).

The event was moderated by Jennifer Nalimi, a Brand/Graphics Design Intern at Paritie Innovation Hub. While moderating, she encouraged the teachers to always think of the safety of their online space and how being careless and ignoring simple instructions can drag them into being victims of online theft and fraud.

Sylvia Mkar, Content Creation Lead at Paritie, talked to the participants about Paritie, while Ariyo Taiwo, a Brand/Graphics Designer at Paritie, gave a brief on what the Cybersecurity Awareness Month is all about.

The event came to an end after The HR, Syed Abullahi gave words of appreciation and urged the participants to ensure they take time to talk about cyber security with their students/pupils, family, friends and colleagues, and urge them to take action.
